Rate DB administration:
Owner and custodian of the Rate Database application, the RDB Specialist owns its rules
and principles.
In charge of the Application set-up, the Rate DB Specialist is tasked with creating and
maintaining its operating rules (set-up, filtering rules, workflow logic etc.)
The RDB Specialist is in charge of creating the Run release cycle, jointly with technical teams
(infrastructure & development) and the Business. He also ensure that changes are duly
communicated (whether originiating from technical teams, Products or else)
Support:
The Rate DB Specialist will train the Level2 Support team so their skills allow an optimized
support, functionally and technically
The Rate DB Specialist remains the ultimate level of escalation, known to the Organization
as the Level 3 support.
Interactions with other teams:
The RDB Specialist is in charge of the Application technical rules, ensuring consistency
between Product lines. The rate DB Specialist will ensure that the Rate DB features and logic,
remain consistent between the different Products (Ocean, Road, Rail, Air, Brokerage, Courier
or else), primarily interacting with his Business Process counterpart.
The Rate DB Specialist will partner with the Business Process team to help translating the
Business & product requirements into an optimal technical solution.
He will translate the requirements into technical design enabling proper development by the
Development team.
The Rate DB specialist will ensure that the test plans produced by those product teams that
require new features are complete, consistent and results duly signed off before pushing
related developments to the delivery queue.
The RDB Specialist is in charge of defining the EDI inbound rules (filters, mandatory fields)
which will allow importing rates into the RDB.
The Rate DB Specialist will interact with and notify those teams that may be affected by
changes (whether functionally or technically e.g. impacts on replicated databases). As such,
he will ensure that proper communication is issued timely.
Key Activities / Accountabilities
Maintain the Rate DB available and usable by the whole GFF Line of Business and support
its usage and development
Document and keep an updated view of historical evolution of the features
Communicate any changes, whether enhancements, downtime etc.
